Caring Together Service: Support for Older People
We work with carers at The Exchange in Blackheath, giving you advice, support and somewhere to relax and have fun. We run the following groups:
Mondays 12.30-2.30pm is a mixed activities and social support session for older people receiving care and their carers from any area. It is however currently full.
Wednesdays 2.00-4.00pm provides arts and craft activities for older people receiving care and their carers from any area. Spaces are available. No artistic experience necessary!
Thursdays 1.00-3.00pm is a creative activities and support session for those from the Lewisham area, who are living with dementia and their carers. Spaces are available.
1:1 CARING TOGETHER SERVICE
This initiative provides the opportunity for carers to receive individually tailored support -. During sessions we are able to organise respite on-site at Age Exchange in the form of our volunteers staying with those who receive care in our Cafe or garden area enjoying tea or coffee together.
CARING TOGETHER INFORMATION SESSIONS
From September we will be holding monthly 2 hour talks, with tea and cake for carers on topics such as power of attorney, well-being, personal budgets and managing care-related fatigue. We are currently organising these and the first three will be held on Wednesdays September 16th, October 14th and November 18th all from 11.00-1.00pm. Whilst these are on we will hold a separate staff-supported reminiscence activity group for those receiving care, giving their carers time to attend. Further details are in the ‘What’s on’ section of this website.
We welcome anyone identifying as a carer whether they are family, friends, neighbours, agency workers, live-in carers or staff looking after someone.
If you would like to access any of these services, please contact Aga: Agnieszka.Daldorph@age-exchange.org.uk
