Community Filmmaking

Why this course?

Find out how to set up and run filmmaking projects with older vulnerable people and people with disabilities in a community-based setting. You’ll develop specialist filming techniques and discover how to gain community involvement and facilitate a group.

The course will include practical sessions to gain skills in:

  • Editing.

Training outline

  • Setting up a community film/video project
  • Targeting individuals, groups and organisations and gaining community and project participant involvement
  • Working with and supporting vulnerable people
  • Employing specialised filming approaches and techniques
  • Filming and interviewing protocols in community settings
  • Facilitating and developing group dynamics to create ownership and commitment
  • Filming and editing practicalities and logistics
  • Listening to and learning from project participants
  • Health and safety issues
