Playground London: Children at Play 1953 to 1970

John Drysdale studied photography in the late 1940s at Guildford School of Art. His early work appeared in magazines such as Vogue and Picture Post and he assisted Cecil Beaton taking the Coronation photographs in 1953. In a long freelance career in photography and photojournalism he has won numerous awards and developed an international reputation.

The exhibition features photographs of London children at play in the streets and in early "adventure playgrounds", some of which won First Prize in the 1955 “British Press Pictures of the Year”.
