Working with London and Quadrant
in Waltham Forest
Age Exchange has recently started a new partnership project with London & Quadrant Housing Trust in Waltham Forest. The area around the Beaumont Estate has in the past suffered from acute deprivation but is now undergoing important new regeneration and housing development. Age Exchange project workers are working with elders from Albany and Suffolk Courts to explore their memories of the local area over 50 years, as well as to encourage them to reflect on their hopes for the future of the locality and its people. Parallel sessions with young people from the Beaumont Estate will encourage participants to engage with the wider community and share memories and cultural stories as part of the overall project. The objective is to encourage young and old to feel valued and integral to the future of the estate and community, to encourage social interaction and raise levels of self-esteem and confidence. Reminiscence of personal and cultural experience will be recorded and explored creatively through film, and exhibition, to celebrate diversity and change.
