Elders in Our Care
Age Exchange is delighted to have received a major grant from Arts Council England to support a unique project on the development of care for and by older people, from the pre war (pre NHS) period to the present day. We are pleased to announce that the project has also received a grant from the One Lewisham Fund.

Following a major programme of project work and interviews carried out in care settings and with community groups across London, Age Exchange is nearing the production stage of its year long
programme of work on the theme of care.

On July 31st the resulting intergenerational theatre production will open at Greenwich Theatre (more details), followed by the opening of the touring exhibition at Greenwich Heritage Centre www.greenwichheritage.org on August 13th.

This unique project has resulted in the gathering of many powerful and important memories of care, for and by older people. The creative products will enable the public to experience this important subject in an immediate form, as well as consider the future of care across our society.

The project will result in a final archive of memories that will be given to the British Library and regional museums.

The project focus is:

- how older people were cared for in late life, within the family, the community, or through
  institutionalised geriatric care
- how older people provided care to other (older) people within the family or the  community
- how they might have worked to provide care for older people as professional carers

The reminiscence time line is to collect memories from 1930-the present day

The project includes direct reminiscence project work with groups, one to one interviews, an exhibition and theatre production.
