For information on other intergenerational projects and how you can be involved, contact Malcolm Jones on 020 8318 9105 or email malcolm.jones@age-exchange.org.uk Thanks to: Sir Steve Bullock Mayor of Lewisham I would like to thank all those who have made this festival possible. It is exactly the kind of project that makes Lewisham the place it is: community led, with a focus on developing understanding between different sections of our rich and diverse population. So come and join us at this unique event – a festival which celebrates how different generations working together can create and run projects for the entire community. Turn up, try it out and just enjoy what’s on offer. Hopefully you might even want to get involved! Kieza Silveira de Sousa Young Mayor of Lewisham As Young Mayor and on behalf of Young Advisors and Young Citizens Panel, I would like to urge you to take part in this fantastic festival. It is really important for us as young people to be part of the wider community and encourage all generations to work and learn together whilst having fun. Please take part and enjoy these wonderful opportunities created by young and old together. Peggy Fitzsimmons Cabinet Lead for Older People As the Cabinet Lead for Older People, I am delighted that the joint work between the Young Mayor and Advisors and older peoples’ groups is playing such an important part in encouraging understanding and collaboration between generations. This fantastic festival is just one of the projects to come out of our intergenerational work and it is a tribute to the commitment and enthusiasm of all those involved. I am personally proud to be part of it and would like to say a big thank you to the many organisations and officers who have worked to make this festival possible. Please support, attend, take part and get involved. But most importantly enjoy this festival of creativity. Malcolm Jones Festival Co-ordinator, Age Exchange Age Exchange has worked to develop pioneering intergenerational projects for 28 years. Projects, productions and workshops run throughout London and the UK have aimed to promote learning, creativity and understanding between generations. In much of our work we have created programmes reflecting the reality that older and younger people are amongst the most marginalised in our society. Bringing them together to share their experiences through creative activity empowers both groups, giving them a sense of self- esteem and a place at the heart of their community. Age Exchange is delighted that Lewisham Council has made intergenerational engagement and learning a priority of council policy. This festival, the first of its kind, will lay the foundations for ongoing intergenerational programmes across the borough realised through the creation of new partnerships between the many diverse organisations committed to working together to develop ongoing intergenerational activity. |
