Dementia Throughout Europe and beyond, Alzheimers and other dementias present a growing challenge to an aging population, families, community care services and health and social services professionals. Dementia is an isolating condition. It causes difficulties in communication within families and separates people with dementia and their carers from each other and from others around them. It is important to find effective ways of reducing or postponing this isolation and in order to preserve and enrich the quality of life for all concerned. Age Exchange has been teaching family carers and volunteers reminiscence skills and activities as a way of using the long-term memory of people with dementia to enhance communication and lessen social isolation. Information via berniearigho@age-exchange.org.uk Training Age Exchange offers a course which may be of interest: Reminiscence in Dementia Care - see dates >> |
