Events for Dementia Awareness Week 2017 – 15th-21st May

Age Exchange is looking forward to Dementia Awareness week 2017. We’ll be increasing our visibility with activities and info sessions in our centre and venues across Southeast London, where you can sample what we do and see how our Reminiscence Arts approach is ever evolving as a tool for combating isolation in older age, and revealing the potential of people in our communities living with dementia.

If you’d like to get involved, come along to some of the following:

Wednesday 17th May: Our Dementia Services Coordinator will be at The Stables, 76 Hornfair Road, Charlton from 1pm with everything you need to know about Caring Together (our weekly groups) and 1:1 sessions for people living with dementia and their carers.
1-5pm, The Stables, 76 Hornfair Road, Charlton (home of Greenwich Carers Centre)

Thursday 18th May: There’ll be a Vintage-inspired Tea Party from 1pm at Surrey Quays Shopping Centre, showcasing an appetizing and enjoyable approach to retro reminiscence. A delightful taster of inexpensive and resourceful reminiscence in any setting, with an open invitation to come along and see some of our work.
1-4pm, Surrey Quays Shopping Centre, Redriff Road, Rotherhithe, London, SE16 7LL

Thursday 18th May: We’ll be hosting a pop-up popcorn shop with the staff from Leah Lodge Care Home, with proceeds supporting Age Exchange. You’ll meet the lovely team from our not-for-profit café, Blackheath Village’s number 1 Dementia Friendly Café.*
Leah Lodge Care Home, Blessington Road, Blackheath, London, SE13 5EB

Saturday 20th May: We’re at Lewisham Shopping Centre, where you’ll see a fascinating insight into our newly launched Dementia Day Care service. The service is free of charge and provides both carers and those they care for with dementia an opportunity to explore their creative skills and to develop a network of friends and support.*
Lewisham Shopping Centre, Molesworth Street, London, SE13 7HB

Throughout the week, our shop front will be transformed into a gallery of art work, lovingly crafted by our services users to showcase their skills and potential. Information on our groups and services will be available for your collection inside.
