Creative Ageing in London Funding from the City Bridge Trust for reminiscence projects with older people in residential care. Creative Ageing is a one-year integrated programme of reminiscence activities, involving five reminiscence arts projects, a Creative Arts Residency leading to a community theatre production, cultural events at the Reminiscence Centre and an end-of-year seminar for practitioners and managers of services. We successfully piloted this project model for the Department of Health in Somerset, West Yorkshire and Norfolk, and now with the support of the City Bridge Trust, we are able to deliver it in London. What makes this project so special is that all the work and activities will take place in residential care settings for older people. We will work with key staff in the settings to set up new activities programmes with residents, recognising their lifelong skills, interests, talents and achievements. Work has already begun at Drake Court in Blackheath and Clifton Gardens in Chiswick. Projects are also being planned in Lewisham and Newham. The venue for the Creative Arts Residency is not yet decided, so contact us if you know of a residential care setting that would be interested in such a venture. In the New Year we will be inviting participants from the different residential homes to meet each other at cultural events at our Reminiscence Centre in Blackheath, such as tea dances and film presentations. Shared reminiscences from the projects will be published on this website from January 2008. The end-of-year seminar for interested practitioners will take place in July 2008. More news about that in the next update. |
